I smoked over a pack a day for 42 yrs. I started when I was 13 and did not know any other way of life. I loved smoking, or so I thought, and never thought I would ever quit. I took that first step on my journey July 21, 2010 and am still traveling. What helped me quit was determination, the patch and quitnet.com - my life savers.

I have COPD, but will slow it down now that I have quit smoking. I will say this journey has not been an easy one, but I have worked it one day at a time, even one crave at a time. As time goes on the load gets lighter but I will continue to be on my guard the rest of my life. I keep reminding myself this addiction had taken over my life for 42 yrs, so of course it's going to take a long while to heal. I do know I have had to completely take smoking off the table as it is not one of my options any longer.

My advice: buckle up for the wildest ride and journey of a lifetime. Lots of bumps, but the road does become smoother over time. Just hang in there - it is doable.
