Controlling my environment

Do yourself a favour and remove anything that reminds you of smoking. Ditch your lighters, ashtrays and emergency pack. Keeping tobacco on hand can make it easier to slip.

Set the stage for change. Do you want to save your choices or add your own? It is easy and free.

What will you do to control your environment?

  • Having all that smoking paraphernalia lying around can be a trigger. Clean up the ashtrays and get rid of the lighters, and make the places you used to go to smoke into smoke-free zones.
  • Get rid of clutter, and remove the odour of smoke from walls, carpets and furniture. Scrubbing with warm water and white vinegar or baking soda does wonders.
  • Stock up on all the supplies you will need to support your quit. Have healthy snacks, sugar-less gum and candy available to help with withdrawal symptoms and cravings. If you are using any medications to assist with your quit, have these available.
  • You are what you wear and you are not a smoker so don’t smell like one. Give your clothes a good clean and if practical hang them outside to freshen up. Dry clean your coats and suits.
