How will you avoid weight gain?

  • Smoking increases how fast you burn calories, so some smokers find that they put on some weight after they quit even when they are eating the same kinds and amounts of food. One way to balance this is to eat more calories in the morning when your body burns them faster.
  • Adding moderate exercise to your routine adds up quick and you don't have to do much. Even adding a 10-minute walk to your day or a few times a week will help boost your metabolism naturally.
  • Some smokers find that they have an increased appetite or crave high calorie foods after their quit. Low-calorie foods with big crunch can really help combat these cravings.
  • It may be tempting to reach for sugary snacks to give you a boost. Instead, eat smaller amounts of food more often throughout the day. If you eat four different foods for lunch, try eating two of these at lunch time and then save the rest for snacks an hour or two later.
  • If you miss holding and having a cigarette in your mouth, you may be tempted to reach for food instead of a cigarette. To avoid those unwanted pounds have plenty of healthy snacks on hand like veggie sticks. Chew sugarless gum or sip cold water with lemon - both are refreshing, can help beat this craving, and have zero calories!
