Tobacco Free Futures

Providers of health care play a vital role in helping their patients stop using tobacco. The Tobacco Free Futures model:

  • is designed to SUPPORT patients who use tobacco products
  • is EVIDENCE BASED using promising practices
  • will develop a LINKED REFERRAL support system

The Tobacco Free Futures Guidelines describe an integrated health system tobacco cessation model that is based on best practice. The model offers a seamless and integrated level of cessation support for Albertans who are impacted by the use of tobacco products.

The Guidelines were developed as a resource for managers and/or tobacco steering committee members, to assist individual healthcare facilities with implementation of the tobacco cessation model. The Guidelines have been aligned with Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) Tobacco and Smoke Free Environments Policy and the tobacco-related dashboard indicators.
